Core Concept The project is to link art works to other art works according to meaningful criteria. For example works can be linked through being, say "iconic". That is one semantic link. Works of art can have infinite semantic links. People will make those links and name them. In producing ArtNet-NetArt processes and systems will be developed to make semantic art links, these will be available for free use by others. Scope of the Project The scope of this project is to produce a step in the dream of making a semantic web of art on the net. The initial effort will be to facilitate online groups to produce a map of linked images. The notions of connection, meaningful criteria, semantic links will be explored experientially. ArtNet-NetArt may use or develop a markup system using tools such as Microformats, Java or Flash to semantically link art on blogs and in Museums. To this end I have joined the Microformat community and made links with people interested in marking up works of art. All documentation will be available online and a paper describing the outcome of the exploration and recommendation for further work will be produced.

ArtNet is a project to make visible the flow of meaning between works of art One thing leads to another.
How the project will be realised The project will include an online ArtEvent along the lines of the DreamEvents I have conducted in the past. See Work Samples. The ArtEvent will be in the form of an online group and will produce meaningfully linked art net works. Parallel to the ArtEvent will be an online group that works together to develop the display systems beyond the format used in the DreamEvents. I can be certain, from my work in the DreamEvents, even though these groups are open, that there will be an outcome along the lines of the format used to link dreams in this earlier work. Images rather than dreams will be linked. Permission to show and link to images will need to be assured, and participants work may be used. The aim is to go beyond the earlier form of presentation and the project will explore and present findings visually and in the report.
Collaboration The project will offer, at no charge, group experiences to artists invited from online art communities. There will not be a payment to participants.
