About Walter Logeman’s Art
|
My images show patterns of life. Exploring every-day life has been my work as a psychotherapist for many years. It is in ordinary experience that the collective unconscious of the psyche is to be found. My abstract & representational images flow from attention to life, inner & outer. I create digital images and present them online. There is a connection between the collective psyche and the Internet. My psychotherapy practice, in part, is online and in virtual community groups. Presentation of my art in cyberspace comes naturally. That presentation is an art work in its own right. My main work so far has been an Internet project, completed in November 2007, whereby I made a thousand sketches in one year. I have extended the digital work to make physical objects. I use digital images as reference works for paintings, using real media such as acrylic to paint on canvas. I intend to develop my skill as a painter and printmaker, using paper, wood, canvas and metal. The history and theory of painting influence my work. Painting today exists in a social context that includes ideas about the death of painting, conceptual art, globalization, digitalisation and the Internet. In these tumultuous times, in which all media is in transformation, painting remains a form of valid artistic expression. I intend to explore ways for my painting to be informed and transformed by this contemporary context. Walter Logeman Monday, 16 June, 2008
